Soil analysis - the GreenPaddocks 'Grassland MOT'
GreenPaddocks offers cost effective soil analysis to all our customers.
Soil fertility affects grass growth, therefore analysis is vital to discern exactly how healthy the soil is. A sample of the soil is taken from different points of each field to be tested and analysed in the lab.
Just like your animals, your soil needs to be looked after. Soil is any land owners biggest asset and well maintained, it will offer many benefits.
Contact GreenPaddocks for your Grassland MOT - check your land's nutrient levels and pH.
Nutrient Levels
- If nutrient levels are low, grass growth will be poor and therefore the quality of the grass as a feed will be poor and lacking in the vital mineral elements that animals require. It will also be less robust.
- Recommendations can be given to correct any deficiencies and the correct balance of nutrients supplied and applied in order to give good strong growth.
pH
- If pH is low, i.e. the soil is acidic and grass growth will be poor. For a quality grass sward, a correct pH level is arguably THE most important aspect to get right.
- Ideally, pH should be maintained at 6.2 - 6.5.
- Lime (which controls pH) is removed by grazing, hay making and leaching from rain.
- Signs of low pH are often poor grass growth and strong weed growth - particularly of weeds such as buttercup. The answer is to test the soil and if the pH is low spread lime to bring the pH up.
